Export company data

Exporting your company data creates a downloadable ZIP package containing all company data and associated files. This is primarily used to migrate a company from one Operately installation to another or from the cloud version to a self-hosted installation (or vice versa).

Who can export company data#

Only company owners can export company data.

How to export your company data#

1. Click on your company name in the top navigation bar to open the company menu.

2. Select Company Admin from the dropdown menu.

3. Click Export company data in the list of admin actions.

4. Click the Start export button.

5. Wait for the export job to finish. A progress bar and percentage indicator show the current status.

6. Once the status changes to completed, click Download to save the ZIP package to your computer.

Things to know#

• Export runs asynchronously in the background — you can navigate away and return to the Export page to check progress.
• The Export page shows a history of all export runs with their date and status.
• To use the exported ZIP to set up a company on another Operately instance, see Import company data.

Version compatibility#

Importing an export package into a different Operately version may fail. Keep the following in mind:

• Self-hosted to self-hosted: both the source and destination installations should run the same Operately version before exporting and importing.
• Cloud to self-hosted (or vice versa): the Operately cloud always runs the latest version. Make sure your self-hosted installation is updated to the latest version before performing the migration. See Update a self-hosted installation.
